General Nonwovens is committed for promoting sustainability in its operations. At INDEX, the Turkish company will produce nonwovens made of various raw materials, including 100% polypropylene, 100% polyester, 100% PLA, partially biodegradable nonwovens containing 15% PLA and 85% polyester, and nonwovens made from 100% post industrial recycyled materials.
 
General Nonwovens has taken several steps to reduce its environmental impact, including implementing internal recycling capabilities and operating a recycling facility to support the circular economy. The company has also installed solar panels to generate renewable energy from the sun.

General Nonwovens' sustainability efforts have been recognized by ECOVADIS, who awarded the company a bronze medal for its responsible business practices. The company is also following up its carbon footprint and setting targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

"Our goal is to achieve reducing manufacturing waste to landfill and to use the latest technology to produce nonwoven fabrics that are resource-efficient," adds Yilankirkan. “ We are ready to welcome our customers and partners in our booth at INDEX23 show in Geneve.”
 
General Nonwovens' latest investment, a Reicofil 5+ line has allowed the company to reduce basis weights for materials used in hygiene applications by 15% ore more. "This is becoming more and more of interest in our market," says Allikan Yilankirkan, product manager. "We are trying to make the same amount of square meters using fewer materials without sacrificing quality."

Additionally, General Nonwovens has focuses on sustainability-focused initiatives like zero industrial waste to landfill. the development of nonwoven fabrics using PLA or blends of PLA and improving energy efficiencies of its processes.
